World Cups

The pinnacle of our sport

All official tournaments are ultimately held under the auspices of Global VX, however they are organised at a local level by NGBs.  Even the European Championships were organised by European NGBs and simply overseen by Global VX.  The first Test Match series was organised and hosted by India with assistance from Global VX - we are there to help.
However the World Cups are organised jointly by Global VX and the hosting NGB.

VX

We aim to host our VX World Cup every four years.  Our first one was held in 2007 and the first youth one was held in 2008 but we have now brought these into line so that they both happen at the same time.

V2

V2 was a later addition to the sport of VX and it is the discipline that is driving the growth of the sport.  We aim to host a V2 World Cup annually, however this schedule has been severely disrupted due to the Covid epidemic

The first V2 World Championships were held in 2010.  Since then, as the sport has grown, we have added Youth and Masters categories to the tournament.  Additionally, as we get more and more countries coming on board we set up the 'Executive Cup.'  In the group stages, assume there are 6 in each group, the top 2 in each group go to the knockout stages of the World Cup, the 3rd and 4th go to the knockout stages of the Executive Cup and the 5th and 6th are eliminated.  The Executive Cup was later renamed the Craig Buttery Trophy in honour of Craig who had given so much to the sport.  The Craig Buttery Cup is also contested at Youth, Senior and Masters levels.

The 2019 V2 World Cup was held in the UK - the World Cup came home.  This was quite simply the biggest and best event we have ever had.  As it was on home turf we had groups of people coming to support specific players. The event had everything - noise, drama, excitement.  Someone said 'it that had been televised this sport would have gone through the roof.'

As the awards we looked round at players of a wide range of ages from a range of countries and thought 'this is why we do what we do.'

This was an amazing event and we look forward to the next one which we hope will be hosted in Hong Kong in 2023, along with the VX World Cup.  Here is a small selection of photos from the 2019 event.
