 VX Hall of Fame

The Hall of Fame is the ultimate award in the sport of VX

2015 Helen Mackenzie

Helen was inaugurated into the Hall of Fame in 2010.  The massive impact of VX in the Ripon area was down to Helen’s initiative. As a result of her work in the region we have a National Centre of Excellence, another club, increased publicity and track record, and a number of successful after-school clubs. She also saved VX England and Global VX money by negotiating free sessions for tournaments and the national team as part of the Centre of Excellence relationship. On top of that Helen has stepped forward to take a leading part in Global. She’s inspirational to others.  Since then

  • she got the first sponsor for a World Cup through her own organisation ACE!
  • She made the introduction of VX to the Lions Organisation
  • became part of the England coaching staff
  • Initially her efforts were focussed round Ripon but spread her influence beyond that as she worked hard to promote the sport in everything else she does e.g. presenting at a Conference, Sky Sports  Change Your Game, Radio York.

Sadly Helen's commitments have taken her away from VX recently but we remain grateful to her for all she did for the sport.

2010 Carl Alsop

At the time the Hall of Fame Committee issued this statement about Carl's inauguration:

"Since first being introduced to the sport Carl's effort has been unstinting, supportive and enthusiastic. He has been instrumental in the development of Rock-It-Ball in the Air Cadet organisation, setting up two teams for participation in the national league and organising the first Air Cadets tournament, working hard to propagate the sport through other squadrons. On top of this he has established another successful club (York) which features teams in the senior league and junior pairs league. As well as this Carl works as part of ERIBA, is an international player, and has also taken on the role of International Development Manager for the IRIBF. Carl is also a key figure in the organisation of the ENRL Yorkshire and Humber region and the v3 tournaments.
As with everyone else Carl works as a volunteer alongside his day job but the amount of time and effort he puts in is second to none and has been consistent from the moment he was introduced to the sport. "

Carl has remained a leading member of the sport - he was our first V2 World Cup Winner, has travelled abroad to promote the sport, was a top member of the England squad, has led the York VX Club to be the most successful VX Club ever and is now the England Head Coach.

2010 Ian Crosby

Ian got involved in VX (or Rock-it-Ball as it was called at the time) in 2007 and went on to become the CEO of the English NGB.  He has remained part of the sport ever since.  This was the statement issued by the Hall of Fame Committee at the time:

"Since first seeing Rock-It-Ball Ian has been a great servant to the sport. In his role as CEO of the England Rock-It-Ball Association Ian has done sterling work to move the Association forward and to grow the sport of Rock-It-Ball. He has been a dedicated and consistent servant of the sport, working to promote the sport on both a local and national level. He has some very innovative ideas and is working very hard to increase the profile of the sport in the North West and across the country. He has been a great ambassador for Rock-It-Ball and continues to put in an immense effort alongside his day job"

2010  Graeme Wood

Graeme was another person who got involved at an early stage and went to extreme lengths to help grown and develop the sport.  He is still a big friend and supporter of VX and we hope that there will be another role for him in Global VX in the near future.   This was the statement issued by the Hall of Fame Committee at the time:
"Graeme has been a dedicated and faithful friend of Rock-It-Ball from the moment he got involved.
He became part of the England program and an important part of the IRIBF, heading up the coaching and umpiring side of the sport.
Alongside this, as part of his role as a teacher, he did a lot of unnoticed work to spread and establish Rock-It-Ball in his local area. More recently, in his new role, he has been making great efforts to help spread Rock-It-Ball through the Extended Services provision with a view to it spreading nationwide.
Graeme's work is ongoing, consistent and effective. What is most noticeable is that he quietly gets on with the job of promoting the sport of Rock-It-Ball without any shouting about it. His work is often unseen but no less important or effective. "

2008 - Tom Hildreth

Even at such a young age, Tom had been involved in the sport from the beginning and had worked hard to help it grown and develop.  He had been key in setting up one of the first clubs, rapidly became a leading player and took roles in the admin and promotion of the sport.  Since becoming a member of the Hall of Fame he has gone on to travel abroad to help promote and develop the sport, has become a successful coach and one of the world's top players.  As well as this he still maintains a role in the admin of the sport.

2008 - Craig Buttery

Craig joined the sport and brought an immense amount of experience in sport development.  He was responsible for the establishment of the global administrative body.  He devoted all of his time to VX, leading the IRIBF (which later became Global VX) and establishing new NGBs and competition.  Sadly Craig had to leave the sport in 2016 because of family commitments, however he remains a great friend and supporter of VX.  In light of his contribution the 'Executive Cup' World Cup tournament was renamed the 'Craig Buttery Trophy'

2008 - Paul Hildreth

Paul was inaugurated into the Hall of Fame as one of the sport's founders and as the person who had done the most to move the sport forward.  Paul is the only one of the founders left in the sport. He is still the person who leads the sport and devotes time and money to its development and growth
